1955 Gretsch Model 6196 Country Club

Country Club, fresh new frets done only a month ago (you’re welcome) and a fresh neck reset.. It’s a Gretsch another you’re welcome. So it’s ready to play right now. The previous owner had us do the work. We loved the guitar and cleaned all of the electronics as well.

Gretsch introduced this model the same year Gibson introduced the ES-5, the big 17” body yet laminate woods for the louder country market. Has parallel bracing, a laminate spruce top, Brazilian Rosewood fretboard with five layers of binding and big pearl block inlays with no zero fret.

You will see the pickup selector and master volume on the cutaway. Then you have a master tone control and separate volume controls for each pickup. Easy. The G tailpiece and the knobs have most of the gold plating worn away. We can’t fool you. The tuners are the original Kluson waffle backs. We see no binding rot. There is a square patch of bondo and the jack hole moved slightly north of that. The pickguard gassed out and has been removed. The neck is great with that medium size with the slightest V profile.

The original Dynasonics sound fantastic. The guitar is woody and articulate driven by the big 17” body. They have…well…body with nice fat tone. The bound F holes, block inlays and gold hardware all spell deluxe. Comes with its original hard case stripped of its grey covering.
