Original cherry nitrocellulose lacquer. Very clean and all-original, and very light at under six pounds. So, the Coronet was Epiphone’s counterpart to the Gibson SG Special, made in the same factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Similar features, broadly speaking – thin Honduran mahogany double-cutaway body, Honduran mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, dot inlays, a single P-90 pickup in the bridge position, volume and tone controls, and a wraparound bridge. 24 & 3/4” scale length, 1 & 9/16” nut width, and a nicely rounded neck profile. Of course, the Coronet has quite a different (but fetching) shape, the 6-on-a-side “batwing” headstock strip Klusons with white buttons and the classy pale gold silkscreened Epiphone logo, a groovy three-ply white pickguard with its distinctive gold “E” logo, and the “radio” knobs that the company never used on Gibson-branded electrics. All nickel parts including the “dogear” P-90 cover and mounting. Plays and sounds great, fantastic looks, no breaks, a wonderful guitar. Comes in newer hard case.
