1981 Gibson Les Paul Custom

Out of stock

Whoa. A classic Norlin Custom in Cherry Sunburst. Not too terribly heavy as Customs go at a hair over 10 pounds, Nashville production, small volute, “Made in USA” stamp, 3-piece maple neck with bound ebony fingerboard and pearl blocks, nickel hardware including pickup covers and original Schaller flip-out crank tuners. The pickups had been out for a while but the original Gibson units were reinstalled before we acquired it – 1981-dated patent number-stamped on the bottom also with ink stampings, based on the external features and output (7.6k bridge, 8.5k neck), quite possibly Shaws. Made in that era in which when they did a bursted finish, they bursted every surface except the fingerboard and face of the headstock – back and sides of the body, back of the neck, back and sides of the headstock, etc. Presumably, some executive stepped in at some point and put a stop to that labor-intensive ornamentation but it’s seriously cool. Plays and sounds great, no breaks, fantastic color, comes in its original (somewhat beat) hard case.
