Cherry, VG++, big neck, nickel hardware, 1 11/16” nut width. Yeow! A vintage classic for about the price of an average tenor saxophone. Two items to note. The original Schaller tuners were replaced with repro Klusons with the old holes filled and more stable tuning. Two, it’s been refretted. You’re welcome.
Otherwise all pre ’65 goodness like a 1 11/16” nut on a great medium large C neck with a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard. Has the original nickel hardware and original 65 degree beveled pickguard. The finish is a vibrant Cherry Red with nicely yellowed binding. Yes, there are some dings, scratches and finish checking but nothing serious and no buckle wear.
The tone, yes the tone is crisp, yet woody when backed off and has great growl when turned up. Let’s point out an important feature. The neck pickup has less output than the bridge. Instead of the neck overpowering the blend is perfect. We normally want a stronger bridge pickup but given a choice the blend of both is heartwarming. Yes, these pickups are great. Comes with the original black pebbled hard shell case.
