2011 Gretsch Custom Shop G6128T-GH Duo-Jet George Harrison Tribute

In stock

Black. Detailed to look exactly like Harrison’s. It is well-known that George Harrison had the Duo-Jet in the early days of the Beatles. 19 year-old George can be seen playing the Cavern Club in Liverpool from 1961 to 1963.
He told Guitar Player magazine in 1987 about his pride of ownership at the time. “…it was secondhand but I polished that thing. I was proud to own it.”
George Harrison gave the guitar to Klaus Voorman in early ’63. Then, getting nostalgic, he got it back. Harrison had Willie’s pal Alan Rogan restore it in 1981. Then in 1987 he used it on his “Cloud Nine” record (it’s featured on the cover) with the hits “Got My Mind Set on You” and “When We Was Fab.” He also used it with the Traveling Wilburys.
Gretsch asked the late Alan Rogan (who spent many late-night hours at Willie’s American Guitars) to help put together this exacting tribute.
This Custom Shop limited edition run was sold out in one hour. Only 60 pieces were made for the worldwide market.
Ours has the unopened “goodies” box that includes a 1987 British 7″ “Got My Mind Set on You” vinyl record with picture sleeve, one of George’s picks (wow is right – a Beatles pick), a “The Making of George Harrison’s Duo-Jet” DVD, his book “I Me Mine”, a personal letter from the Harrison family, and a reprint of the IOU when Harrison could not afford the 90 quid and had to owe the seller 20 pounds.
This is the Custom Shop version with every ding and scratch exactly like George’s original. We are told only 30 of these remained in the United States…a very rare package indeed.
On consignment, and again with the still-factory-sealed box of ultimate case candy including one of George Harrison’s personal guitar picks.
