1994 Paul Reed Smith Custom 22

Now this one is stunning. Near-mint, second year of issue, 7.25 pounds, flame maple “10” top in Orange (called “Gretch Orange” on the dealer sticker – yes, that’s how it was spelled), a custom color at the time, original Dragon pickups (there was no Dragon II yet), gold hardware, bird inlays, 25″ scale length, 22 frets, wraparound tailpiece, comes in its original hard case with truss rod and bridge tools, and unsigned warranty card. Essentially the production version of the extremely-ornamented and limited-production PRS Dragon, this early example was made in Annapolis before the company opened its current facility in Stevensville, has the stamped (rather than inked) “10” top notation on the back of the headstock, and has the very desirable alnico IV Dragon Bass and ceramic Dragon treble pickups. Switching is via the 3rd-revision 5-way rotary switch, and has a master volume and master treble control. Typical Paul Reed Smith premium materials (Honduran mahogany, highly-figured eastern maple, etc.), exceptional build quality, excellent ergonomics and playability, and incredible tone from those pickups, which, while very hot, are also very musical and detailed. And that amazing color…
