1979 Gibson Les Paul Custom

In stock

Are you ready to get your Norlin on? Here’s 10.75 pounds of clean and 100%-original Nashville-made Gibson Les Paul Custom, in that most iconic of Custom colors, black. By ’79, as audiences flocked to theaters to see Alien and Apocalypse Now, Les Pauls still had the volute and maple neck, but the “sandwich” or “pancake” body was gone, being all-mahogany. Bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays, the most conspicuous indication from a distance that you’re looking at a Custom and not a Standard, and of course featuring the bound headstock with split-diamond inlay. Gold hardware including keystone-button Grovers, “Nashville” bridge and stoptail is a little corroded but fully functional. The pickups are a pair of 1979-dated “patent stamp” humbuckers, the direct second-generation descendent of the PAF, and sound magnificent. Plays very well, in good structural, mechanical, and electronic shape, and…the look. Oh, and it comes in its original and highly-desirable first-version “Protector” case with all latches fully intact. ’70s Customs are really cool, what can we say? Consigned.
