1956 Gibson L-48

In stock

Sunburst. 16” body made with all solid woods. Unlike most L-48s, which were generally all-mahogany, this one has a maple back and sides, giving it a tone more like an L-50 or even an L-7, but still with the simpler inlay characteristic of the L-48. Medium chunky mahogany neck with a slight “v” profile. Beautifully grained Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge. This one is all stock with a nickel tailpiece, single-line Klusons (with new buttons) and original pickguard. Sounds great with a rich and beautiful tone, plenty of articulation from the spruce and punch from the maple. In good shape, does show some finish checking and flaking finish on the bottom of the guitar near the strap button. Also has one small crack on the back near the waist on the bass side. Comes from the family of the original owner who bought it new in 1956, and has a newer hard case. A truly great value in a vintage archtop.
