1954 Martin 00-17

These all-mahogany guitars have always been popular. To quote the 1951 catalog: “Select mahogany body, top, and neck. Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, oval fingerboard with wide frets and white dots. Polished lacquer finish, dark mahogany color.” (These 00-sized Martins were called “grand concert” models.) The mahogany is air-dried and quartersawn, matched for color, grain, and tone. Brazilian rosewood board and bridge. This guitar came from the family of the original owner. He had the braces professionally scalloped (nicely done). It has a maple bridge plate (replaced and now patched). The work was done done long ago by a skilled luthier. Only 1 2 & 1/2″ crack on the top – repaired long ago. Also oversprayed, again, also long ago. Don’t you love when we point out the details? It sounds great, very lively, and comes in its original soft case.
